How to prepare your kitchen for cockroach treatment

Clear utensils, seal food, and give the treatment room to work.

Cockroach control works best when the kitchen is ready. Gel and targeted treatments need clear access to the gaps where cockroaches hide — under the sink, behind the stove, along the plinth, and inside the dark corners of cabinets. A few minutes of prep on your side makes the technician’s visit more effective and reduces the chance that residues end up on food-contact surfaces.

In Hyderabad homes, German cockroaches and larger outdoor species both show up in kitchens, especially where humidity stays high near the dishwasher drain, fridge drip tray, or bathroom stack. Preparation is not about deep cleaning the entire flat. It is about giving the treatment a clean path and keeping people and pets safe while the product works.

Clear utensils and food-contact surfaces

Empty the sink completely. Move vessels, chopping boards, and dish racks off the counter. Wipe crumbs and grease from the hob and the strip behind it — grease is both food and cover for cockroaches. Put open snacks, fruit, and pet food into sealed containers or the fridge before the visit starts.

If you use a water purifier with a tray, empty and dry it. Soft drink crates and cardboard boxes under the sink are favourite harbourages; shift them out so the plinth and pipe chasing are visible. Leave the kitchen as you would for a thorough appliance service: accessible, not spotless museum-ready.

Empty under-sink and stove gaps

Pull out what you can from the cabinet under the sink. Technicians need to reach the wall junctions, the floor of the cabinet, and the pipe entries. The same applies to the gap beside the stove and the kickboard area under base units. If drawers are packed tight against the back panel, remove a few items so hinges and rear corners can be treated.

Do not leave wet cloths in a heap. Hang them to dry or bag them temporarily. Moisture near food waste is exactly what keeps a kitchen attractive after treatment if habits do not change.

Food, bins, and overnight habits

Empty the kitchen bin into a sealed outdoor bag before the visit, then line it fresh. After treatment, keep lids closed and take waste out the same evening when possible. Avoid leaving dirty vessels in the sink overnight for the next few days — that single habit undoes a surprising amount of good work.

Store rice, flour, and spices in hard containers with tight lids. Cockroaches do not need a feast; crumbs and starch dust are enough. In apartments, shared ducting and shaft openings can reintroduce insects from neighbouring flats, so sealing obvious gaps around pipes (after the visit, if advised) helps keep results longer.

People, pets, and timing

Ask when you book whether children or pets should stay out of the kitchen for a short period after application. Follow the technician’s instructions for that product and visit. Keep aquarium filters and bird cages in mind if they sit in or next to the kitchen — mention them when you confirm the appointment.

Plan the visit when someone can stay home to open cabinets and answer questions about recurring spots (for example, always near the mixer shelf or the bathroom door). That local knowledge shortens the job and improves targeting.

After the technician leaves

Do not wash treated surfaces immediately unless you are told to. Leave gels and bait placements undisturbed. Ventilate as advised. Over the following nights you may still see a few cockroaches — that can mean they contacted the treatment, not that it failed. Persist with hygiene: wipe counters at night, dry the sink, and keep cardboard storage to a minimum.

Our cockroach control is published by home size and includes a six-month free visit warranty. If cockroaches return within six months on a treated job, the follow-up visit is free under the published terms.
